PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Anderson Might Be Out 3 Weeks

Share

Receiver Flipper Anderson rested Monday at Centinela Hospital after cracking a bone in his lower back Sunday, but the injury is not considered serious and Anderson could possibly return to action in three weeks, Coach John Robinson said.

Anderson, who was injured when a 49er defender fell on top of him during Sunday’s 27-10 Ram loss, is experiencing pain but there is no danger of paralysis, Robinson said.

Left guard Bern Brostek, who suffered a sprained right ankle on the first series of Sunday’s game, will apparently miss three to four weeks.

Robinson said the club plans to add a receiver and an offensive lineman for depth this week, but he wasn’t sure how the roster spots would be opened or who would be added.

The Rams have five players on injured reserve, so Robinson said he was hesitant to add Anderson or Brostek to it because teams can make only five free IR moves.

Cornerback Rodney Thomas, who injured his knee two weeks ago and might undergo surgery, is a likely candidate to be placed on IR to open at least one spot.

The current wave of injuries apparently will delay the return of tailback Marcus Dupree for several weeks.

Dupree was put on IR before the season with a sore left toe. He is healthy enough and eligible to come off this week, but probably won’t because the Rams need to save the roster spot for other positions and already have Robert Delpino and Cleveland Gary sharing the tailback spot.

In other injury news, Robinson said right tackle Jackie Slater and defensive tackle Alvin Wright, who missed the past two games with sore shoulders, and linebacker Fred Strickland, who missed two games with a strained knee, might see action Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
