Sierra Madre : Road Improvement OKd
The City Council voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to accept a revised design concept for improving Orange Grove Avenue, despite lingering concerns expressed by three residents and two council members.
Approval of the improvement plan, which had been denied in August, came after five amendments to prevent adverse effects were included.
The amendments provided protections against widening the present roadway, destroying significant trees, altering the rustic character of the existing street and radically grading the area. They also required traffic control devices to prevent increased speed.
Despite the protections, Mayor Pro Tem Gary B. Adams again voted against the plan. Councilwoman MaryAnn L. MacGillivray, though expressing reservations, joined the majority.
City engineers of Sierra Madre and Arcadia will work with Los Angeles County to develop preliminary designs. Work could begin as early as fall, 1992.
