Rancho Bernardo
A transient suspected of slaying his mother and trying to kill his stepfather in a vicious beating at their Rancho Bernardo home pleaded not guilty Thursday and was ordered held in downtown County Jail in lieu of $2-million bail.
Bradley Parlin, 28, an unemployed waiter, was arrested Tuesday after a high-speed police chase after he allegedly robbed a Solana Beach bank. He was also arraigned on charges of robbing his mother, Jean Eckroad, 64, and his stepfather, Wallace Eckroad, 76, and stealing their car Sept. 19.
Wallace Eckroad is on a respirator in a hospital and unable to say much about the attack, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Jim Waters.
Waters requested the $2-million bail, which was set by San Diego Municipal Judge Joan Weber.
Hours after the hearing, federal authorities filed charges against Parlin, accusing him of robbing four banks in San Diego County this month, including the Wells Fargo in Solana Beach on Tuesday. The FBI also said Parlin is suspected of robbing a fifth bank earlier this month.
