Garcia’s Two Touchdowns Help Anaheim Defeat Kennedy, 17-6

Che Garcia rushed for 112 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Anaheim High School to a 17-6 nonleague victory over Kennedy at Glover Stadium.

Anaheim took a 7-0 lead with 5 minutes 23 seconds left in the first quarter when Garcia scored on a one-yard run. The Colonists (1-2) had taken the opening kickoff and driven 70 yards in 12 plays.

Anaheim’s defense then took over, limiting the Irish to 44 total yards in the first half. The Colonists also forced four turnovers, two of which led to scores. Anaheim recovered a fumble on Kennedy’s first play of the second half and drove 41 yards in 12 plays to set up Alex Perez’s 33-yard field goal to give the Colonists a 10-0 lead.

Kennedy’s Ray Mobley returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, but the extra point was missed, so the Irish trailed, 10-6, with 3:46 to play in the third quarter.

The Irish (1-2) drove to midfield midway through the final quarter, but Anaheim recovered Kennedy’s third fumble of the game and drove for its final score, a three-yard run by Garcia with 1 minute 32 seconds to play.

Garcia, who had a game-high 30 carries, also intercepted a pass from Irish quarterback John Guthrie in the first half.
