Vanilla Ice Gets Fine, Probation for Gun Charge

Share

Rap music star Vanilla Ice pleaded no contest Friday to a weapons violation and was ordered by a Van Nuys Municipal Court judge to make a public-service video and pay a $1,782 fine as punishment.

The singer, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, also was placed on two years’ unsupervised probation. He did not attend the court session Friday.

The charges stem from a June 3 incident involving transient James Gregory outside a 24-hour grocery store in Studio City. Gregory told police that when he approached Van Winkle and his bodyguards to sell them jewelry, he was chased away by a bodyguard waving a gun.
