Missouri Rallies for a 27-27 Tie

Phil Johnson threw his third touchdown pass of the game with 24 seconds to play and then ran for a two-point conversion, giving Missouri a 27-27 tie with Indiana in a nonconference game Saturday.

Johnson, a sophomore quarterback, threw a two-yard scoring pass to Byron Chamberlain to get Missouri (1-1-1) into position to tie.

Vaughn Dunbar ran for a personal-best 264 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the final quarter, to rally Indiana (1-1-1) from a 19-7 deficit after three quarters.

Dunbar scored on plays of 16, 24 and two yards. It was the second-best rushing total in Indiana history, behind Anthony Thompson’s 367 in 1989.

Dunbar scored from 24 yards out eight seconds into the fourth quarter and, after a two-point conversion failed, the score was 19-13.

On Missouri’s next possession, Johnson was sacked by linebacker Paul Williams and the Tigers were forced to punt.

Indiana went 51 yards in six plays, with Dunbar scoring from the two, and the Hoosiers took a 20-19 lead. The touchdown was set up by a 28-yard pass play from Trent Green to Rod Coleman.

Green added a 16-yard touchdown run with 6:12 to go to help give Indiana a 27-19 lead.
