Jacumba
The body of a 77-year-old Vista woman who was reported missing last week was found in her car at the bottom of an embankment near Interstate 8.
Dorotha Belle Van Pelt of the 1000 block of Bobier Drive was found in her car at 5:05 p.m Sunday in a ravine 150 feet below I-8 in East County, a medical examiner’s spokesman said.
Van Pelt left her son’s house in Yuma at 8 a.m. Sept. 24 and was reported missing when she didn’t show up at home later that day.
Authorities estimate the accident occurred at 10 a.m. when Van Pelt’s car ran off the westbound lane of the freeway 2 miles west of Carrizo Gorge Road near Jacumba.
