Nigerian flyweight boxer Nojim Gbadegesin died after suffering a brain injury in his second professional fight, the Nigerian news agency said.
Gbadegesin, a 27-year-old customs worker, went into a coma after he was knocked down by fellow Nigerian Kelvin Onwudiwe in the sixth round of a bout last Friday. He reportedly died in a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria.
In London, meanwhile, British boxer Michael Watson remained unconscious and on a life-support system after surgery to replace a monitoring device in his brain.
It was the third operation for Watson, who suffered a brain injury when he was knocked down by fellow Briton Chris Eubank in the 12th round of a super-middleweight bout.
