NEWPORT BEACH : Assailant Sought in Knifepoint Robberies
Police are looking for a man who robbed two women at knifepoint in separate robberies at Fashion Island and another shopping center this week.
At 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, the man threatened a woman with a knife before taking her purse in the parking lot of a supermarket shopping center at 2660 San Miguel Drive, Sgt. Andy Gonis said.
The day before, at 11 a.m., a man confronted a woman at knifepoint as she was getting out of her car in an underground garage at Fashion Island. He fled with her purse, Gonis said.
Neither victim was harmed in the robberies.
Gonis said police believe that the same man committed both robberies, based upon descriptions given by the victims.
