A woman in her seventh month of pregnancy was shot to death Tuesday, but physicians in West Covina were able to save the life of her fetus, authorities said.

Vickie Gerolaga, 25, was shot at her home in the 900 block of Carriage Lane in Walnut, and was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina where doctors removed the fetus, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Irma Becerra.

Gerolaga died at the hospital, deputies said. The baby girl was alive, but her medical condition was unavailable, authorities said.
