PLATFORM : Accountability
The real issue regarding the latest Mike Tyson incident is that the rules of the game have changed. The new rules are being redefined by the survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
The first rule is that violent behavior is no longer protected by silence, secrets and privacies. Athletes and celebrities are now learning this.
The United States, which has the highest rate of rape of any Western industrialized nation, and which buries 4,000 women a year who have been murdered by their husbands, must demand no less accountability from persons in the public eye than from the average citizen.
Superstars can no longer be shielded by their celebrity status.
