JERUSALEM — A man attacked two German tourists with a knife Wednesday in Jerusalem’s historic Old City, killing one and injuring the other, police said.
Police Chief Haim Albades said the stabbings of the women occurred in the afternoon at two small cafes just inside the Damascus Gate leading into the Old City.
The victims’ names were not immediately made public. Police said the survivor sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Police closed off the area, and witnesses said police rounded up dozens of Arab men as suspects or possible witnesses.
There were no indications as to the motive for the attack. The most recent fatal stabbing of a foreign visitor was in April, when a French woman was killed in Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.
The 3 1/2-year-old Palestinian uprising in Israeli-occupied territories has frequently led to stabbings of Israelis, but tourists are rarely attacked.
