PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Not Ready to Rejoin Roster

Tailback Marcus Allen is eligible to come off the injured reserve list this week but is probably a few weeks away from returning to the roster.

“He just started a little running last week,” Coach Art Shell said Wednesday.

Allen strained right knee ligaments in the Raiders’ season opener against the Houston Oilers.

Guard Max Montoya will miss his second consecutive game because of a groin pull. The Raiders have listed him as out of Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers at the Coliseum.

Marcus Wilson, released last Saturday to make room on the roster for tailback Nick Bell, has returned to the team’s practice squad. . . . Shell said he plans to increase Bell’s workload this week. Bell had seven carries in his debut last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. “He’ll get maybe eight or nine this week,” Shell said.
