There’ll be show tunes and light classics from musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jim Gamble and his puppets will join the orchestra in telling the tale of “Peter and the Wolf.”

Country and Western tunes will fill the air, along with jazz, Latin sounds, chamber music and musical echoes of the 1950s and ‘60s.

There’s not a whole lot in the world of American music that won’t be heard at today’s outdoor Peninsula Music Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the sprawling, shady campus of Chadwick School on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

“We’ll have a lot of things going on, with people picnicking all over the place in a festive, free-flowing and easy atmosphere,” said Adele Daniels of the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which holds the annual fair to thank the community for its support of the orchestra.

The school’s amphitheater, courtyard and auditorium will be given over to music, with such performers as the Westwind Brass, Debussy Trio, Lula and Afro Brazil, the 32nd Street Jazz Band and acclaimed 18-year-old pianist Anders Martinson.

The Music Mobile, a van full of musical instruments that visits South Bay schools, will be at the fair so children can see and touch the strings and horns that make music. They’ll also be able to transform oatmeal boxes, cans and other items into musical instruments.

Fair-goers may bring their own food baskets or purchase goodies from four restaurants that will set up shop for the fair. A drawing for prizes includes a trip to London.

“It will be a full day,” Daniels said.

Chadwick is at 26800 S. Academy Drive. Admission is $16 for adults and $7 for youths 17 and under. Free parking and a shuttle service is available at the Palos Verdes Landfill, Crenshaw Boulevard north of Palos Verdes Drive North.
