COUNTYWIDE : Fog Causes Flight Delays at Airport

Share

Airline passengers faced delays of as long as an hour Wednesday morning when fog descended on John Wayne Airport during its busiest departure period.

About 10 planes--a mixture of big jets and small shuttles--were held on the ground for varying lengths of time between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

More than 20 flights usually depart between 7 and 9 a.m. The first 10 planes took off on time before the fog rolled in, said Joe Fowler, manager of the control tower at John Wayne Airport.

No incoming flights were delayed or diverted to other airports, Fowler said, and the airport was not forced to shut down operations.
