Tour de North County Cycling Event Sunday

More than 4,500 cyclists will test their physical prowess during the seventh annual Tour de North County bicycle ride Sunday. Cyclists will pedal between 5 and 75 miles through the streets and hills of North County, beginning and ending their treks at Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista.

For the experienced cyclist, there is the 75-mile route. The five- to six-hour ride begins at 6:30 a.m. and follows a course through Fallbrook.

A tough, hilly course through Bonsall and out West Lilac Road makes up the 50-mile ride, beginning at 7:15 a.m. The ride is expected to last four hours or more.

Designed for the weekend cyclist, the 25-mile route covers Vista’s rural back roads. The three-hour ride begins at 8:30 a.m.

A 12-mile ride with a few hills takes about 1 1/2 hours and begins at 9:45 a.m. The 5-mile family ride begins at 10:15 a.m. and lasts about 45 minutes.

Following the rides, there will be a French feast for the cyclists at the high school at 11 a.m. A cycling and fitness fair for everyone at the high school features live music, roving mimes, demonstrations, free health screenings, cycling equipment, fitness products and sportswear.

Interested cyclists can register on the day of the ride, at 6 a.m. at the high school. Cost is $24 for adults; $17 for those under 18.
