A Southeast San Diego man was accidentally shot with his own gun Friday by a 16-year-old boy who did not know the gun was loaded, police said.
Anthony Jones of the 900 block of 40th Street is in serious condition with a bullet wound in the head at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Jones was handling the gun at about 12:30 a.m. Friday when the boy asked to hold it, San Diego Police Detective Ron Dougherty said. Jones told the boy the gun was not loaded. The youth pulled the trigger, and, on the third pull, the gun fired.
The bullet entered Jones’ left temple and exited his forehead above his right eye, San Diego police spokesman Dave Cohen said.
