PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Lyght to Sit Out Against Chargers

Share

No. 1 draft choice Todd Lyght, who suffered a sprained right ankle in practice Thursday, will sit out Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers at Anaheim Stadium, Coach John Robinson said Friday. It is doubtful Lyght will return against the Raiders at the Coliseum Oct. 20, Robinson said.

The injury came when Lyght was pressing starting cornerbacks Jerry Gray and Darryl Henley for more playing time.

The Rams activated rookie cornerback Robert Bailey off the injured-reserve list, where he had been since suffering a broken right hand in an exhibition.

To make room for Bailey, veteran fullback Mosi Tatupu was placed on the minor injury-reserve list, meaning the Rams will have to waive him as soon as his knee is sound, then recall him if no other team claims him.

Linebacker Brett Faryniarz, defensive tackle Mike Piel, guard Bern Brostek and wide receiver Flipper Anderson, all on the 47-man roster, are also injured.

The Rams activated defensive end Bill Hawkins, who had sore ribs, off the injured-reserve list, making room by releasing defensive tackle Ben Thomas. The Rams now have used two of their five free injured-reserve moves.
