3 Arrested in Shooting of La Habra Man
A patrol officer who heard a gunshot early Saturday chased and arrested three men in the drive-by shooting of a La Habra man.
Jose Lopez, 19, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the knee.
Officer Jose Quirarte heard the single gunshot about 2:30 a.m. in the area of Cypress Street and Grace Avenue and saw a car speed off, said Sgt. Ron Harryman.
Quirarte followed the white Ford Pinto in his patrol car and stopped it two blocks away, Harryman said.
The officer then arrested Rudy Sanchez, 22, of Fullerton and Roy Soltero, 32, and Robert Gonzalez, 22, both of La Habra, without incident. They were held on suspicion of attempted murder.
“The officer was in the right place at the right time and did an excellent job in capturing the suspects,” Harryman said.
A handgun was later found on the roadway between the site of the shooting and the site of the arrest. Police did not know which suspect shot Lopez.
Investigators said the shooting was apparently gang-related. The suspects are being held at the La Habra Jail in lieu of $250,000.
