Colorado did not need any extra downs Saturday against Missouri.

Quarterback Darian Hagan passed for two touchdowns and ran for 101 yards as the No. 25 Buffaloes cruised to a 55-7 Big Eight Conference victory over Missouri at Boulder, Colo.

Unlike last year’s controversial outcome in Columbia, Mo., when Colorado won the game on a fifth-down play at the gun, the Buffaloes left no room for doubt.

“I don’t want to draw any comparisons with last year’s game,” Colorado Coach Bill McCartney said. “I think it drew attention to the game and maybe added some intensity. All of the things that were said before the game might have helped us get ready. But, really, it had no bearing.”

Hagan completed nine of 17 passes for 119 yards, including touchdown pass plays of 21 yards to Michael Westbrook and 11 yards to Sean Brown.

Freshman Lamont Warren rushed for 110 yards, and Colorado’s defense smothered the Big Eight’s top passing team.

Colorado, 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big Eight, amassed 656 total yards, including 502 on the ground. The Buffaloes took a 24-0 halftime lead, then capitalized on three Missouri turnovers to score on their first five possessions of the second half for a 55-0 advantage.

Missouri (2-2-1, 0-1), losing to Colorado for the seventh consecutive year, finally scored early in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run by freshman tailback Joe Freeman.

Colorado scored on four of its first six possessions and Hagan set a school record by passing for a touchdown in seven consecutive games.

No. 14 Nebraska 49, Oklahoma State 15--Derek Brown rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns at Stillwater, Okla., as the Cornhuskers beat Oklahoma State for the 18th consecutive time.

Brown, who played at Anaheim Servite, became the first Nebraska player since Bobby Reynolds in 1950 to start a season with five 100-yard games.

Keithen McCant completed 17 of 19 passes for a career-high 231 yards and three touchdowns for Nebraska (4-1, 1-0), which has not lost to Oklahoma State since 1961. The teams tied in 1973.

The Cornhuskers finished with 504 yards of offense. Oklahoma State (0-5, 0-1) had 354 yards.

Kansas State 16, Kansas 12--Paul Watson connected with Andre Coleman on a 34-yard touchdown pass play with 1:58 left in a Big Eight game at Manhattan, Kan.

Watson completed 10 of 15 passes for 146 yards while engineering touchdown drives of 94 and 66 yards in the final minutes for Kansas State (4-1, 1-0).

Kansas (3-2, 0-1) drove to Kansas State’s nine-yard line and ended the game by throwing an incomplete pass into the end zone.
