A 20-year-old Mira Mesa man was killed in a shooting that police said was apparently gang-related.
Al Martinez de Santiago was sitting in a parked car in the 1000 block of East 6th Street in National City shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, talking with friends, when a car filled with men drove up and parked behind them, Sgt. Ray Allen said.
A fight with sticks or bats erupted between the two groups, Allen said, and De Santiago was shot in the chest with a handgun. He died at the scene.
Police were searching for suspects, Allen said.
