Two local community leaders have been chosen to join an advisory board of the Cal State Northridge satellite campus in Ventura.

Marcos Vargas and Ron Smiley will fill three-year terms expiring in 1994, said James Cleary, CSUN president.

The Community Advisory Board makes recommendations on the improvement and development of the 1,200-student campus, which serves upper-division and graduate students.

“I’m not sure what our agenda will be,” said Smiley, who will attend his first Community Advisory Board meeting in two weeks. “It will probably function like any other advisory committee, and it brings together people in the community who are interested in the campus.”

Smiley, who sits on the Professional Advisory Committee at CSUN, is a Ventura resident and works at the Point Mugu Pacific Missile Test Center.

Vargas is executive director of El Concilio del Condado de Ventura in Oxnard, a private social agency serving the Latino community.
