2 Hurt in Crash on Riverside Freeway

Share

A 43-year-old woman and her daughter were injured Monday when their car was struck from behind by a truck on the Riverside Freeway, tying up rush-hour traffic for about an hour, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision led to a chain-reaction crash involving three other vehicles and forced the closure of at least two westbound lanes of the freeway near Magnolia Avenue.

The CHP said that the accident occurred about 5 p.m. when traffic suddenly stopped on the freeway. The driver of the tractor-trailer rig failed to stop in time and rear-ended the car ahead. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to jack-knife, the CHP said.

Lordes Lopez and her daughter, who was not identified, were passengers in the car struck by the truck. Their condition was not immediately known Monday night.

Three other cars in the same lane crashed into each other trying to avoid the accident, a CHP dispatcher said.

No other injuries were reported.
