Encores for Abbado: Claudio Abbado, the Italian conductor who is stepping down as music director of the Vienna Opera after this season, has agreed to a double encore: He’ll return for “Le Nozze di Figaro” during the 1993-94 season, officials said Tuesday, and after that he is to conduct the Mozart opera and “Boris Godunov” for a Japan tour. Abbado, 58, announced last week that he was leaving his post for health reasons before his contract expired in 1997. However, there have been rumors of disagreement between the conductor and opera executive Eberhard Waechter. Abbado’s reported illness apparently will not affect his extended commitments to the Berlin Philharmonic and Salzburg Festival.
