COUNTYWIDE : Property Tax Bills to Go Out on Friday

Share

Nearly 211,000 property tax bills, at an average of $2,142, will be mailed Friday to owners of Ventura County real estate.

The $452 million in tax bills represents a $23-million increase over last year, but the increase is down substantially from prior years.

Previously, the amount jumped by an average of 10% annually. This year it increased by about 5%. According to county Tax Collector Harold S. Pittman, the decline reflects a dip in prices in the county’s residential resale market.

Taxpayers have the option of paying the tax in two installments. The first installment is due by Dec. 10 and the second by April 10.

Payments postmarked after the deadlines will be assessed a 10% penalty.

Pittman said failure to receive a tax statement does not excuse property owners from paying their tax bills or the late penalty if they fail to mail them on time. Owners who bought their property after March 1 and are responsible for payment of their taxes should contact the tax collector’s office at 654-3744 if they do not receive a bill.
