Freeway Nightmare No. 6,532:

A Northridge woman was on the Golden State Wednesday morning when she heard radio disc jockey Charlie Tuna pick her name in a drawing and announce that she had won several hundred dollars worth of stereo equipment.

That is, it was hers if she phoned KCBS-FM (93) in 30 minutes.

She missed the deadline.

“She said she just couldn’t get off the freeway,” Tuna related. “She was really disappointed.”

Let that be a lesson: If you’re ever caught in such a situation in a sea of red taillights, reach out and touch someone . . . who has a cellular phone.

When we chastised the New York Times for reporting recently that California’s treasurer is Kathleen Sullivan, we figured the mistake was based on the assumption that all of this state’s politicians have entertainment backgrounds.

As it turns out, Sullivan, the ex-TV anchorwoman, and Kathleen Brown, the real treasurer, have more in common than we figured. Both are graduates of Santa Catalina High School in Monterey, as we learned from another grad, J’Amy Maroney Brown (no relation).

Kathleen Brown graduated in 1963, Sullivan eight years later. “We thought it (the mix-up) was very funny,” said Karen Wiskoff, Santa Catalina’s director of communications. “I’m doing a piece on it for our school bulletin.”

By the way, Kathleen Brown’s yearbook reveals that she studied drama for two years.

K.C. Clancy caught it on the KCAL (Channel 9) newscast Tuesday night: After reporting the confirmation of Judge Clarence Thomas amid the controversy over sexual harassment, the station played a commercial for radio station KIIS-FM.

The ad jingle said: “You can KIIS in the morning, KIIS in the sun and KISS in the workplace.”

You don’t see any “Post No Bills” warnings on the temporary fence around one construction site in Santa Monica. In fact, you’re invited to post--if you’re willing to pay (see photo).

It’s painful to see longtime Southern California resident Jane Fonda on television night after night, rooting for a bitter rival of our Los Angeles Dodgers.

Perhaps it’s time to nickname her Atlanta Jane.

L.A. theaters cheerfully give out the name of the new Ken Russell film over the phone--but not Mann’s Pierside Pavilion in Huntington Beach, the only Orange County theater showing it.

A Times reporter who phoned the OC movie house was told only that “a Ken Russell film” was playing.

Asked the title, a ticket-taker said, “We’re not allowed to say the name.”

Pressed, he finally whispered:

“It’s ‘Whore.’ ”

MacArthur Park, given its present name in 1942 in honor of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, was formerly known as Westlake Park. The old name referred to its location near the corner of Wilshire and Alvarado--considered West L.A. in the 1890s.
