PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Greene Still Must Fit the System
Although Kevin Greene has been moved on the depth chart from right defensive end to left outside linebacker, the Ram defensive staff is emphasizing that he still will see plenty of time as a defensive end.
“Kevin is not a full-time linebacker,” linebacker coach Ronnie Jones said Wednesday. “Kevin’s going to continue to play some defensive end, and we’re going to play him as a linebacker within our system. The key will be if Kevin can fit our system. We’re not going to change a system to fit Kevin. Kevin knows that.”
Injury report: Guard Joe Milinichik is scheduled for surgery on his right shoulder today or Friday and probably will be placed on the injured-reserve list today. . . . Fullback Mosi Tatupu, who was placed on the minor injured-reserve list last week, has had surgery on his right knee. . . . Coach John Robinson said No. 1 draft choice Todd Lyght, who missed Sunday’s 30-24 victory over the San Diego Chargers because of a sprained right ankle, probably will be ready to play cornerback against the Raiders.
The Rams signed guard James Richards, a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys this year before being released during the summer, to their practice squad. They made room by releasing wide receiver Jimmy Raye.
