Employee in Hunting Garb Causes Scare in Office

A man reporting to work in a hunting outfit--complete with live ammunition--caused a scare in a Glendale office building Thursday morning.

Glendale Police Sgt. E. Lief Nicolaisen said that John Murset, 49, of Arcadia, came to his office at 9:30 a.m. dressed in camouflage and carrying binoculars with a bandoleer loaded with rifle ammunition. Police, called by a person who reported seeing a man with a gun in the elevator, cleared an outdoor courtyard and kept other workers from entering the building, at 130 N. Brand Blvd., while a search was under way.

Police found Murset in the office of a communications company where he works as a production manager. Murset, who had no gun with him, explained that he had been deer hunting earlier that morning and had not changed clothes. Nicolaisen said Murset would not be charged with any crime, but “could have used a little better judgment” than to wear an ammunition belt to work the day after 23 people were killed by a gunman in Texas. “He should certainly be aware that people will be a little edgy after a situation like that,” Nicolaisen said.
