Burbank Youth Grazed by Bullet

A teen-ager was grazed on the nose by a bullet but escaped serious injury during a drive-by shooting in Burbank, police said Thursday.

Daniel Valles, 15, was a passenger in the car of Jose Sandoval, 20, also of Burbank, when members of a rival gang fired one shot at them Wednesday afternoon, said Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Kight. The bullet pierced the windshield and struck Valles, who was treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Kight said Valles was probably saved by the bullet’s small caliber and the glass, which slowed the velocity of the bullet. He said police believe the shooting at the intersection of Third Street and Cypress Avenue is part of an ongoing gang war.
