A 6-year-old girl was abducted Thursday afternoon and later released by a man who approached her and a friend and offered them candy as they walked home from school, police said.

The girl and her friend were walking home from Iva Meairs Elementary School, at Trask Avenue and Newland Street, about 2 p.m. when a man walked up and offered them candy, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Steve Hicks said.

The girls walked away, but the man grabbed the 6-year-old and carried her to a car parked nearby, Hicks said. The other girl fled unharmed.

Officers found the victim in a nearby neighborhood about two hours later. She was still being questioned at the Police Department Thursday night.

“As far as we know at this time, there’s no physical trauma,” Hicks said. “Evidence of molestation has not been determined, but it’s still under investigation.”

The abductor was described as Latino, about 30 years old, with short, straight hair and a mustache. He was wearing a blue long-sleeve shirt and black pants. He was driving a gray four-door car.
