PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Flipper Anderson Getting Ready Slowly

Share

Wide receiver Flipper Anderson made one of his rare appearances at Rams Park since suffering a cracked vertebra in his lower back Sept. 22 in the Rams’ defeat by the San Francisco 49ers.

Anderson worked out lightly Thursday under the direction of Garret Giemont, strength and conditioning coach, for about 15 minutes. He showed no signs of pain or discomfort.

Coach John Robinson said that there is a possibility Anderson will be ready for the Rams’ game in Atlanta on Oct. 27, but it’s much more likely Anderson will come back for the Nov. 3 game with the New Orleans Saints.

Robinson praised the versatility of offensive lineman Duval Love, who has been the Rams’ handyman since recovering from a knee injury in training camp. When right tackles Jackie Slater and Robert Jenkins went down, Love stepped in. With Slater back and right guard Joe Milinichik out, Love is back at the spot he played last season.

“You can kind of forget or underestimate just how big a job he has done,” Robinson said. “Got hurt right away, missed all of training camp, and then came back and had to play tackle. Now he’s playing guard. So he’s a valuable guy.”

No. 1 pick Todd Lyght practiced for the first time since spraining his ankle last week and showed no ill effects. Robinson said Lyght probably will play Sunday against the Raiders, but was not sure in what capacity.
