Putting the Record Between the Uprights

A USC article last week mentioned Jason Hanson, the excellent kicker at Washington State. It said the field goal record was 67 yards, held by Russell Erxleben, Steve Little and Joe Williams.

However, in 1977, Ove Johannson of Abilene Christian kicked a 69-yarder. I read it in the L.A. Times.

Editor’s note: Johannson kicked a 69-yard field against East Texas State on Oct. 16, 1976. However, Abilene Christian was not an NCAA member school at the time and the kick is not recognized as a record by the NCAA.
