Israel Contreras of Venezuela won the World Boxing Assn. bantamweight title by knocking out champion Luisito Espinosa of the Philippines in the fifth round at Manila.
Contreras survived two knockdowns in the second round and put Espinosa down twice in the fifth, the final time at 2:16 of the round.
