Colorado quarterback Darian Hagan is known for his running, but Saturday against No. 12 Oklahoma he demonstrated that he also is becoming an accomplished passer.

Hagan completed 10 of 15 passes for 151 yards and threw three first-quarter touchdown passes within a three-minute span to lead No. 22 Colorado to a 34-17 Big Eight Conference victory over the Sooners at Norman, Okla.

The Buffaloes, 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Eight, twice drove 99 yards for touchdowns in winning their 17th consecutive conference game. It was the most points ever scored in Norman by Colorado.

Oklahoma (4-2, 1-1) lost to the Buffaloes for the third consecutive year and saw its Big Eight title chances crippled. Other than Nebraska, the last conference team to beat the Sooners three consecutive times was Kansas State in 1925-27.

“Most people don’t think we can throw the ball. That’s where they make their mistake,” said Hagan, who came in as the top-rated passer in the conference. “This is real special. Not too many teams can say they’ve beaten Oklahoma three years in a row.”

Oklahoma struggled on offense after scoring on its first possession. Mike Gaddis gained 120 yards in 17 carries, but the Sooners finished with only 251 total yards.

Hagan completed nine of 12 passes for 143 yards in the first half when the Buffaloes overcame a 7-0 deficit.

He capped Colorado’s first 99-yard drive by connecting with tight end Sean Brown on a six-yard pass. The big play was a 65-yard completion to Mark Henry on third and six. The Buffaloes also took advantage of a personal foul against the Sooners.

Before Saturday, the Buffaloes’ highest-scoring game in Norman was 30 points in a 42-30 loss in 1969.

Oklahoma quarterback Cale Gundy completed eight of 22 passes for 89 yards and had two passes intercepted.

Kansas 41, Iowa State 0--Tony Sands set a school career-touchdown record at Lawrence, Kan., as the Jayhawks recorded their first shutout in a decade and their most lopsided Big Eight victory since 1952.

The day started miserably and got worse for Iowa State (2-4, 0-2). The Cyclones fumbled the opening kickoff, had a punt blocked for a touchdown on their first possession and lost quarterback Chris Pedersen because of an injury on their second possession.

By then, it was 10-0 and Kansas (4-2, 1-1) was en route to its first victory over Iowa State since 1984. The Jayhawks’ last shutout was a 27-0 defeat of Colorado in 1981.

The margin was the largest over a Big Eight opponent since a 43-0 victory over Iowa State in 1952.

Lamont Hill fumbled Kansas’ opening kickoff and Harold Harris recovered for the Jayhawks on the 12. Three plays later, Dan Eichloff, who entered the game leading the NCAA in field goals, kicked a 25-yarder.

A few minutes later, Jon Schnoor’s punt was blocked by Kansas’ Dana Stubblefield, and Don Davis recovered in the end zone for the touchdown.

Sands made it 17-0 with a 16-yard run. It was his 22nd career touchdown, eclipsing the record of 21 set in the mid-1970s by Laverne Smith.

Missouri 41, Oklahoma State 7--Phil Johnson passed for four touchdowns in the first half at Columbia. Mo., to keep Oklahoma State winless.

Johnson tied a school record for touchdowns passes in a game and completed 17 of 31 passes for 260 yards with one interception. He also rushed for 90 yards.

Missouri (3-2-1, 1-1) piled up 487 total yards, scoring twice in the first quarter and three times in the second.

The start is the worst for Oklahoma State (0-6, 0-2) since 1963.

Oklahoma State had five turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions.
