A robber dubbed “the jock” by FBI officials--who has struck San Diego and Orange County banks seven times since Sept. 30--robbed two banks within an hour Monday, the FBI reported.
The man walked up to a teller at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the San Diego Trust & Savings Bank in the 7300 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and handed the teller a note, authorities said. The man, who was wearing a false mustache, was given an undetermined amount of money, FBI spokesman Frank Kelly said. Before leaving on foot, he wiped his fingerprints off the teller window, Kelly said.
About an hour later, the same man walked into the Bank of Southern California in the 1000 block of Rosecrans Street and again handed the teller a note, Kelly said. This time he was given $2,000 before wiping his prints off the counter and leaving on foot, Kelly said.
The man, who earned his nickname because he usually enters a bank wearing a jogging suit with a towel around his neck, as well as the fake mustache, was wearing a baseball cap and a plaid shirt in Monday’s robberies, Kelly said.
Kelly said the robber is responsible for one other San Diego robbery and four in Orange County.
