Boxing and concert promoter Willy Martinez, 41, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import cocaine, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison.
Martinez, 41, was sentenced on the basis that the acts involved were committed before Nov. 1, 1987, when severe sentencing guidelines went into effect. Under the new rules, he could have gone to prison for life without possibility of parole.
