Antonovich Asks Review on Music Center Shortfall

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich Tuesday called for a review of the circumstances, including fiscal controls, that led to a fund-raising shortfall at the county-owned Music Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Antonovich said he will ask the full board next week to direct the county chief administrative officer and auditor-controller to report within 30 days on the “reasons for the fund-raising shortfall and financial discrepancies, plans for future fund-raising campaigns and budgetary controls and procedures utilized in evaluation of personnel.”
Music Center officials reported in September that they had made a $1.3-million mistake in their estimate of $17.6 million raised for 1990-91. The Music Center blamed the situation on “inaccurate estimates and inadequate budgeting processes.”
