Bucky Showalter, a coach for the New York Yankees before being released earlier this month, has become a candidate to become the team’s manager.
Gene Michael, Yankee general manager, said that Showalter was recommended as a candidate by Robert Nederlander, the club’s managing partner. Michael had said earlier that he wanted to hire a manager from outside the organization to replace Stump Merrill. But Nederlander interceded on behalf of Showalter after the team’s partners met last week in Cleveland.
