Share

Those favoring defensive football are advised to avoid Mt. San Antonio College Saturday night when Mt. SAC will play host to Pasadena in a Foothill Conference game.

Mt. SAC (4-2) is coming off a 43-42 victory over Riverside, a game in which quarterback Anthony Calvillo completed 37 of 60 passes for 486 yards and four touchdowns.

Pasadena (5-1), which has lost only to Palomar, defeated Rancho Santiago, 51-17, last week.

“This is a nice little rivalry,” said Tom Maher, who is offensive coordinator for Mt. SAC and one of several coaches who have been on the staff at both schools.

Saturday night’s game is a Northern Division opener for both teams and could figure prominently in a postseason bowl bid.

Mt. SAC came back from a 21-0 deficit last week. The Mounties were behind, 42-35, with 1:11 left when Calvillo led them on an 85-yard drive that ended with an eight-yard scoring pass to Duane Williams with no time left.

Calvillo ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to give the Mounties the victory.

Pasadena had no problems with Rancho Santiago as quarterback James Marlbrough ran for three touchdowns, passed for two and caught a two-point conversion pass.

Citrus (2-3 overall, 1-2 in league play), which had a bye last week, resumes play against Rio Hondo at El Rancho High in Whittier.

Two weeks ago, Citrus lost to Chaffey, 19-12. It was the first time since 1978 that the Owls lost to the Panthers.
