Injury update:

--Jim McMahon doesn’t plan to be a “sitting duck” Sunday when he returns to action for the Philadelphia Eagles against the San Francisco 49ers four weeks after knee surgery. “I’m not going to run out of the pocket. But I’m not going to be a sitting duck,” McMahon said Wednesday. “I’m going to move. I still have my lateral movement. I’ll be able to avoid people. I’m just not going to outrun anybody.” The Eagles haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in 13-plus quarters over four games.

--Tight end Brent Jones returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since tearing knee ligaments six weeks ago, but he may miss one more game before being activated by the 49ers. Jones was injured in the 49ers’ 34-14 victory over San Diego on Sept. 8. He underwent surgery on Sept. 10 to repair torn ligaments in his left knee.

--Denver running back Gaston Green continued to be hobbled by a strained thigh muscle during Wednesday’s practice, and the likelihood increased that Bobby Humphrey will be activated by the Broncos when they face New England on Sunday. Green, who ranks fourth in the AFC in rushing with 554 yards, sat out last week’s 19-16 victory over Kansas City with a strained thigh muscle.

--Matt Bahr’s thigh injury is a lot worse than originally thought, and there’s a chance the kicker will miss the New York Giants’ game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

--Boomer Esiason doesn’t expect to be able to quarterback the Cincinnati Bengals when they play the Houston Oilers on Sunday, and if he’s right, Esiason’s string of consecutive starts will end at 37. Esiason suffered a slight separation of his left shoulder in Monday night’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.
