ANGELS : Robinson Option Bought for $100,000

The Angels said Thursday that they had bought out the option of right-hander Jeff Robinson, who was 0-3 with a 5.37 earned-run average in 39 relief appearances last season. Had they not bought him out for $100,000, he would have earned $1.25 million in 1992.

The Angels also released infielder Kent Anderson and catcher Barry Lyons. Anderson spent last season in triple-A Edmonton and Lyons, who was signed last spring after the Dodgers had released him, played in two games after his Sept. 1 call-up from Edmonton and had a single in five at-bats.

Boston General Manager Lou Gorman confirmed he has spoken with Whitey Herzog, Angels’ player personnel director, about trading Mike Greenwell, Ellis Burks or Tom Brunansky for a pitcher.

“We talked at some length with California but didn’t come to any conclusions,” Gorman said.

Gorman also said he would consider signing Dave Winfield, whose contract was bought out by the Angels on Wednesday.
