Glendora : City Mulls Gas Station Marts
The City Council has given tentative approval to an ordinance that would amend the 1967 Municipal Code to allow service stations to operate convenience stores, if they can meet design criteria.
The ordinance would require most existing stations to make substantial changes to incorporate a convenience store. Stations would need a minimum of four gas pumps, a minimum lot size of 22,500 square feet, landscaping, several parking spaces and at least 1,600 square feet for the store.
The council-initiated ordinance is in response to recent station closures, and is expected to increase the availability of gasoline in the city and maintain tax revenues.
The ordinance will go into effect 30 days after its second reading, expected at the Nov. 26 council session.
