Penn State Coach Joe Paterno was stating the obvious Saturday after his No. 8 Nittany Lions routed West Virginia, 51-6, at State College, Pa.

“We’ve come together,” Paterno said. “We’re ready.”

Penn State quarterback Tony Sacca passed for three touchdowns and sneaked a yard for another to lead the Nittany Lions.

Sacca completed nine of 15 passes for 172 yards, increasing his career total to 5,358, 24 short of Chuck Fusina’s school record of 5,328 set in 1978.

Penn State (7-2) also found some help for its ailing running game as Richie Anderson became the first Penn State back to rush for 100 yards this season, getting 100 in 15 carries. Shelly Hammonds added 70.

Except for one touchdown drive, the Lions stopped almost every offensive move by West Virginia (5-3), which gained only 131 yards.

Craig Fayak kicked field goals of 42, 31, and 19 yards for Penn State, which beat the Mountaineers for the 19th consecutive time at home since 1954.

West Virginia’s Darren Studstill completed six of 14 passes for 70 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Adrian Murrell, who had been averaging 98.4 rushing yards a game, was held to 29.

No. 18 Syracuse 21, Rutgers 7--Qadry Ismail scored on a 65-yard reverse and also caught a 26-yard pass to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Brian Picucci with 2:34 left to lead the Orangemen at East Rutherford, N.J.

John Biskup kicked second-half field goals of 40 and 29 yards for Syracuse (6-2), which beat Rutgers (5-3) for the fifth consecutive time.
