An unidentified tipster who found a bicycle similar to one belonging to slain 9-year-old Amanda Leigh Gaeke did not see a man discarding it along with other trash, police said.

On Sunday, police had said that the witness saw a man dumping the bicycle and other trash near Lake Jennings in Lakeside. In fact, the tipster actually discovered the bicycle before seeing someone discarding items in the same spot, police spokesman Dave Cohen said Monday.

Police, who last week asked for the public’s help in finding the North Park child’s bicycle, are investigating about 10 tips involving bicycles similar to the one Amanda was seen with shortly before she disappeared Oct. 3. Her body was found Oct. 14 in a canyon just blocks from her home.
