A 31-year-old Thousand Oaks man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Thursday after stabbing another man in the chest, buttocks, arms and legs with a butcher knife, authorities said.

Andres Morales, accused of knifing Humberto Lopez-Zepeda, 22, of Thousand Oaks, was treated for minor head injuries at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said. He was then booked into Ventura County Jail and was being held on $250,000 bail, authorities said.

Lopez-Zepeda was stabbed during a fight at 3:20 a.m., Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Coons said, but the motive was unclear.

Following a trail of blood, deputies found Lopez-Zepeda in a drainage ditch about 100 feet from a house in the 800 block of Avenida De Los Arboles, where the incident occurred, deputies said.

Lopez-Zepeda underwent surgery and was listed in serious condition at Los Robles, hospital spokeswoman Carol Keavney said.
