HAIL, JERRY: Orange County’s Democratic Party may be hurting now, but Jerry Brown has always liked it here. In 1978 he became the first Democrat to carry the county in a governor’s race. Now he’s coming back. Brown will be here in January for a $100-a-plate fund-raiser. . . . Developer Vinay Pai, the host, says a Democrat will beat President Bush because of the economy. “I think among the Democrats, he’s the best,” Pai said about Brown.
