A 25-year-old woman who refused a police officer’s order to drop her weapon was shot in the shoulder Friday night by an El Cajon policeman, authorities said.
Joyce Cortez was shot about midnight outside her apartment in the 500 block of West Lexington Avenue after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the address, according to a police report.
Officers said they saw a woman firing a handgun in the direction of three men involved in a fight on the ground nearby. They ordered her to drop the weapon, but when she continued firing, she was shot once in the shoulder.
Cortez was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital and released on Saturday.
