Facilities: 660-person capacity auditorium and indoor gymnasium, two lighted baseball diamonds, one unlit baseball diamond, outdoor basketball court, children’s play area, picnic area, soccer field, two lighted tennis courts and volleyball court.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

For the past two years, recreation officials at Branford Recreation Center have doubled their efforts to make their park programs affordable to the people in the Arleta area. During the summer, the park hosted a carnival to raise money for winter sports leagues.

“Our goal is to make park activities available for everyone, regardless of their income level,” recreation assistant Vickie Daniels said. “We’re trying everything we know of to keep the costs down.”

She said that their efforts are working to unite people in the Arleta area who are increasingly bringing their families to the park for picnics and recreation.

“We’re fortunate that we have a clean, well-kept park where people aren’t afraid to gather,” Daniels said. “The young couples with children enjoy Branford as much as the teen-agers and senior citizens.”
