Hartford, Troy Run Past Fullerton Into the Playoffs

James Hartford rushed for 122 yards and four touchdowns as Troy defeated Fullerton, 33-17, in a Freeway League game Friday night at Fullerton District Stadium.

With the victory, Troy (3-5-1, 3-1) clinched a playoff berth and will face Buena Park next week with a chance to gain a share of the league title.

“It means a lot to our team to make the playoffs,” Troy Coach John Turek said. “After our 0-4-1 start our kids showed character and heart and continued to improve weekly. That’s what has got us to the possibility of winning a league championship.”

After Fullerton (1-7-1, 0-4) took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on the first of two touchdown runs by quarterback Daniel Chacon, Hartford scored his first touchdown on a 10-yard run with 1:55 left in first quarter. He added a 14-yard scoring run with 3:23 remaining in the first half to give the Warriors a 14-6 halftime lead.

Troy increased its lead to 21-6 on the first play of the second half on a 57-yard touch down pass from Brent Lacher to Brent Coon. The Indians then held the ball for most of the next 14 minutes, with Chacon scoring his second touchdown. is brother, David, scored on a two-point conversion and kicked a 24-yard field goal with 8:33 left in the third quarter.
