Glendale Beats Harbor for 3rd in a Row, 14-7 : College football: Scoring drive to open second half keeps Vaqueros unbeaten in WSC Northern Division play.

Glendale College opened the second half by driving 72 yards for the deciding touchdown in a 14-7 Western State Conference victory over L.A. Harbor on Saturday at Glendale.

The winning drive, which took 3 minutes 54 seconds, was impressive in an otherwise defensive struggle. Quarterback Eric Kiesau completed passes of four, five, 13 and 11 yards. Harbor (1-7, 1-6 in WFC play) contributed a 15-yard penalty, Bobby Webster ran for seven yards and Rafik Thorossian added 17 yards, including the score on a four-yard run.

“That (drive) took a little steam away from them,” said Glendale Coach John Cicuto, whose team posted its third win in a row to improve to 3-5, 3-4 in WSC play. The Vaqueros are 3-0 in Northern Division play, however, and remain in the hunt for the division title.

Harbor had gained momentum with a touchdown late in the first quarter that tied the score, 7-7.

Glendale stopped itself late in the first half when Angel Martinez fumbled after catching a pass from quarterback Mike McMullen, who played for a short time in the second quarter. Harbor defensive back Carlos Roberts recovered the ball at Harbor’s 15-yard line and the Seahawks retained possession until intermission.

Draws utilizing Damon Moore were Harbor’s most effective plays in the first half as the running back carried 12 times for 52 yards. He was limited to only 10 yards in the second half, however.

Thorossian rushed for 78 yards in 17 carries for Glendale. Webster also contributed to the ground game, rushing for 44 yards in 17 carries.

Kiesau was 10 of 15 passing for 87 yards. He threw two interceptions, one of which Harbor converted into its only touchdown.

Glendale capitalized on its initial possession. Webster scored from three yards on a pitchout to cap a 64-yard drive.

L.A. Harbor answered with 1 minute 20 seconds left in the first quarter after Kiesau threw an interception at the Glendale 24-yard line. Quarterback Mark Choate completed a 10-yard pass to Marc Woodruff, then hit Vini Bjazevich with a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Glendale’s Keith West, a wide receiver, and L.A. Harbor’s Craig Weems, a defensive back, were ejected in the second quarter after they were assessed personal fouls.
